Victoria Colvin Tops $10,000 World Championship Hunter Rider Professional Finals

Upper Marlboro, MD – Oct. 9, 2019 – Having already won nearly all of the hunter ring’s major accolades throughout her career, Victoria Colvin added another accomplishment to her growing trophy case after topping the leaderboard in the hotly-contested $10,000 World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Professional Finals during the Capital Challenge Horse Show. Colvin competed against six of the nation’s top professional equestrians in the first phase, ultimately earning the highest score of the multiple-round finale to emerge as the victor after qualifying for the championship day.

“This class has meant a lot to me,” said Colvin. “I’ve been watching it since I was riding in the juniors, and I’ve seen Scott Stewart win it a lot, so to be able to be someone who won it is amazing.”

Colvin chose to ride Lindsay Maxwell’s High Society in the opening handy round to commence the contest on Friday evening, placing well enough to earn a spot in the returning Final Four. Sunday’s finals saw the young professional return to the arena with momentum as she continued to garner chart-topping scores, eventually propelling herself to the top of the scorecard with score of 92, 92 and 94 on R&R Stables’ When In Rome, securing victory as the 2019 winner of the $10,000 World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Professional Finals.
“It means a lot to be able to win this,” remarked Colvin. “I think it’s really important to be able to show you’re able to just get on and show your catch-riding abilities. Usually, most of the horses you show, you show them all year and you know them like the back of your hand. It’s great to be able to get on random horses and have the judges judge you for how the horses react to you instead of just on the horse.”
Over the course of the year, Colvin has steadily accrued wins in show rings across the country, showing no signs of slowing down. An exemplary equestrian both on familiar horses and catch-rides, her natural skill and feel for a horse is unmatched. The professional rider and trainer will make two final appearances for the year, first at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show and then she will reunite with High Society at the Washington International Horse Show to round out her 2019 schedule.
