Tessa Downey and Katherine Cramer Reign Supreme in Second Equitation Tuesday in Traverse City

Traverse City, Mich. – July 19, 2019 – Back for another installment, the second of four Equitation Tuesdays during the 2019 Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, LLC, brought equitation athletes to the Williamsburg Ring to display their skills and vie for top honors. Commanding the Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunter Seat Medal, Tessa Downey demonstrated the best form to earn the top spot with the ride on HH Moonshine, while Katherine Cramer piloted Odyssey to the highest score in the THIS National Children’s Medal.

Riding for Double H Farm, Downey, who is from Houston, Texas, and trains with Peter Pletcher at PJP Farm, bested a talented field of junior riders over multiple rounds of competition, finishing the class as the leader following a series of textbook performances aboard HH Moonshine, an 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding. The duo expertly tackled the 3’6” course to ultimately garner the winning score and earn valuable points towards the Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunter Seat Medal Final in October at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. Mia Wayne finished behind Downey, taking home the red ribbon for her efforts in the irons aboard Laurel Macallister’s Temptation.

In the THIS National Children’s Medal, Cramer on Sorensen Stables’ Odyssey swept the class, navigating the 3’ fences with ease to emerge as the equitation class’ leaders. Up against one of the larger fields of entries during Week III’s Equitation Tuesday, Cramer maintained her composure and consistently exhibited proper form, jockeying Odyssey to the top of the leaderboard. The THIS National Children’s Medal consists of a series of equitation classes held throughout the year in which junior riders collect points in order to qualify for the year-end finals, which are held in October during the Capital Challenge Horse Show. With her win on Tuesday, Cramer has earned points towards the finale, while Lilly Goldstein finished in second overall with her own Carebear.

Other equitation winners included owner-rider Ava Todd, who navigated Cool Boy 22 to the first place prize in the NCEA Junior 3’3” Hunter Seat Medal, and Addison Stoughton aboard her own Magical Diamond, the champions in the WIHS Pony Medal.

Two more Equitation Tuesdays will take place at the 2019 GLEF during Weeks IV and V to provide equitation exhibitors the opportunity to collect double the amount of valuable qualifying points per week in one location.
