Team Welles Closes Out a Successful Four Weeks at Spruce Meadows with Top Results

Calgary, Alberta – July 11, 2019 – Team Welles closed out a successful summer series at the highly regarded Spruce Meadows Horse Show, located in Calgary, Alberta. Competing throughout four weeks of competition, Andrew Welles, alongside Eric Glynn, saw continued success and growth throughout the series. The Spruce Meadows series was highlighted by a number of great results in the ring for Andrew, Alexandra Welles, Hannah Lupica and Quinn Larimer.

Welles competed with a number of talented horses in his string, including the Itasca Group LLC’s Shariva and Primo Troy. Welles started off the Spruce Meadows series strong during the National Tournament, placing second with the 8-year-old Hanoverian, Shariva, in the Friends of the Meadows CSI-YH1* Cup and a took home a fourth place finish aboard the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse, Primo Troy in the RBC Capital Markets 1.50m CSI 5*. During the Continental Tournament, Welles and Shariva continued to shine by winning the Friends of the Meadows Young Horse Cup CSI-YH1* out of 59 entries. Welles also saw great results with the 11 year old Irish Sport Horse, Serpico, producing a number of placings in the FEI 5* divison, all the way up to the 1.60m level. During the Pan American Tournament, the duo placed fourth in the Friends of the Meadows 1.50m CSI 5*. In the fourth and final week, the North American Tournament, Welles and Primo Troy finished fifth in the competitive 1.50m CSI5* Pepsi Challange in the International Ring.

“It was a great summer series at Spruce Meadows. For myself, this year we brought a group of younger horses and each one came out a better horse and had top results. Our students were rockstars, they all moved up a level and won along the way,” Welles described of the overall series. “Spruce is a different beast than other shows in terms of what it demands, we were fortunate to have a fantastic team that made it so seamless. We’re already looking forward to going back next year!”

Students of Team Welles, including Hannah Lupica and Quinn Larimer, finished out the series with a number of excellent placings during the highly competitive show. Lupica, aboard her own Hypnose Van Paemel and Infinity, regularly found herself on the podium. During the third week of the circuit, the Pan American, Lupica memorably captured first place three days in a row with her longtime partner, 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood Hypnose Van Paemel, in the Junior/Amateur 1.20m jumpers with the help of Welles and Glynn. Additionally, Larimer proved to be successful with her two talented horses, Limboy Von Worrenberg and Galaxy. Competing in the 1.40m and 1.20m divisions with her horses, Larimer produce consistent rounds, capturing second place in the 1.20m during the Continental Tournament. Alexandra Welles and XM picked up right where they left off the year before, picking up two wins in their first three classes to begin a successful summer series campaign.

“Our students were fantastic, they all moved up a level and had some fantastic placings and wins in a lot of competitive classes. They handled the big Spruce Meadows rings so well the entire time. We are very happy to have such fantastic horses and clients to work with,” commented Glynn.
Up next, Team Welles will head to Traverse City for the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, competing during weeks three, four and six. Following, Welles will travel to the CSI4*-W Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ qualifier at Thunderbird Show Park, the Hampton Classic Horse Show CSI4*, the HITS Saugerties CSI 5*, and the American Gold Cup CSI4*-W.
