National Horse Show Launches Junior Leadership Committee Presented by Palm Beach International Academy

Lexington, KY – October 14, 2019 – On a mission to further education and sportsmanship at the junior level of equestrian sport, the National Horse Show is proud to launch the Palm Beach International Academy Junior Leadership Committee in 2019. With the goal of fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and performance positivity, the PBIA Junior Leadership Committee aims to become an essential resource to all young athletes that attend the National Horse Show. In its inaugural year, the committee will host several events specifically for junior riders, in an effort to help them bond with their peers and have a positive competition experience.
The PBIA Junior Leadership Committee will bring together the passion and ideas of seven founding committee members: Hailey Johns (chair), Alex Alston, Alexis Ortiz, Dominic Gibbs, Jordan Allen, Juliette Joseph, and Sophia Pilla. The core team worked together with National Horse Show management to develop exciting new experiences for their peers to the already expansive National Horse Show schedule. Each event will support the goal of being both a learning opportunity and a chance for young riders to meet and network with one another, thus creating a safe atmosphere for personal and competitive growth.

Tasked with two primary responsibilities, the PBIA Junior Leadership Committee members act as a sounding board for the National Horse Show and help to facilitate the experience for other juniors attending Maclay Finals. Committee members also oversee the Junior Leadership Program’s initiatives and work closely with the National Horse Show team to improve the overall experience for junior riders and provide them with opportunities for personal development.

The Palm Beach International Academy is the perfect fit for this initiative.
The organization’s mission is to provide educational programs that foster curiosity, instill knowledge and promote cultural awareness in positive, innovative and caring environments, while focusing on the unique learning styles and needs of each student. Their vision is to be among the global leaders in the transformation of 21st Century Education by building long-term, multi-generational relationships with educated, principled and accomplished individuals.

On Friday afternoon, the PBIA Junior leadership committee will host the Wrenwood Farms Junior Welcome Party as a lead up to the ASPCA Maclay Draw. This  event is open to all junior competitors of the National Horse Show and will feature food and a live DJ.
On Saturday afternoon, junior riders are invited to join the committee for a “Pizza and Positivity” event in Maxwell Place, where Dr. Jennifer Speisman PsyD, HSP, will address the athletes that are entered to compete in the ASCPA Maclay Equitation Championship. Dr. Speisman will give all auditors tools to use to help them remain calm and positive during their time in the Alltech Arena.
The National Horse Show’s PBIA Junior Leadership Committee hopes to connect junior riders and foster an environment of friendship and support to build memories that will last well beyond competition.

The 2019 National Horse Show is offering over $700,000 in prize money as an FEI CSI4*-W designated event. The return of the National Horse Show $50,000 Hunter Classic along with the ASPCA Maclay Finals and $225,000 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Lexington has made the National Horse Show a must-attend event for equestrians around the world as the finale to their summer equestrian seasons.
