Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 5, 2020 –On Sunday, some of show jumping’s most talented athletes gathered at Deeridge Farms for the $213,300 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Wellington CSI4*-W at the Palm Beach Masters. Lifelong equestrian M. Michael Meller was proud to support the exciting World Cup event, now in its fifth year of operation. This year, Meller presented the M. Michael Meller Style of Riding Award to Brian Moggre.
“Brian Moggre is such a talented young rider,” said Meller. “He is an incredibly hard worker and he really shows young athletes what they can accomplish if they put their mind to it. It’s been so exciting to watch his career flourish and it is wonderful to be able to recognize him with this award.
“I believe in supporting world-class competitions that showcase the best the sport has to offer,” continued Meller. “The Palm Beach Masters is a beautiful venue with incredible footing. The Jacobs have worked incredibly hard on these events that have turned horse shows back into a world-class event, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
The M. Michael Meller Style of Riding Award is presented to an international equestrian who exemplifies the best style of riding, while maintaining a sportsmanlike composure. Previous winners at events include Beat Mändli, Conor Swail, Alison Robitaille, Charlie Jacobs, Eric Navet, Mavis Spencer, Ian Millar, Callan Solem, Heather Caristo-Williams, Laura Kraut and Catherine Tyree.
During Sunday’s competition, Meller presented Moggre with the coveted award, which was dedicated in memory of Venezuelan show jumper Andres Rodríguez.
In addition, the “Doc” Spirit Award was presented to Eve Jobs’ top mount Venue d’Fees des Hazalles, a 15-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare. The award, created in honor of the late Dr. John R. Steele, is given to a horse that best exemplifies the heart and athleticism necessary to be competitive at the highest levels of show jumping.
Jobs and Venue d’Fees des Hazalles have been competing on the Longines Global Champions Tour and most recently finished 14th in the $213,300 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Wellington CSI4*-W at the Palm Beach Masters on Sunday. They were also part of the bronze medal show jumping team at the 2019 Pan American Games.
“Venue d’Fees des Hazalles is a horse that exemplifies everything that you need to win at the top level of the sport,” explained Meller. “She has all the scope in the world, and she also tries to win every time she goes in the ring. The mare has so much heart and with Eve at the reins that make an amazing combination.”
