Lexington, Ky. – August 5, 2019 – Brian Moggre has strengthened his lead in the 2019 Hagyard Challenge Series as he aims for the Leading Rider title. Meanwhile in the hunter ring, professional Jeff Gogul is atop the standings in the World Equestrian Center (WEC)/Kentucky Horse Shows USHJA National Hunter Derby series.
After winning the $36,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic CSI3* during the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, the first event in the series, Moggre topped the leaderboard for the $50,000 Hagyard Leading Rider Bonus. Several solid placings in the following two grand prix events and a second place finish in the most recent event on Thursday, August 1st extended his lead with a total of 500 points. New Zealand’s Sharn Wordley is currently after the top prize though, earning top placings on several mounts in two of the events for 290 total points. Karl Cook, Salvador Ornate and Samantha Schaefer are all tied for third place with a win a piece in the Kentucky Spring Classic, the Kentucky Summer Horse Show and the Kentucky Summer Classic, respectively, with 250 points each.
The Hagyard Challenge Series consists of seven grand prix classes to be held during the 2019 show series at the Kentucky Horse Park. The series concludes with the $65,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic held during the Kentucky National Horse Show. Following that exciting competition, the winner of the $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus will be announced and presented with a cash prize by the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute.

Ohio’s World Equestrian Center (WEC) has partnered with the Kentucky Horse Shows as the presenting sponsor of the exciting 17 part WEC/Kentucky Horse Shows USHJA National Hunter Derby series, held at the Kentucky Horse Park and WEC. The $10,000 Leading Rider Awards will be presented at the WEC Finale Horse Show at the Ohio WEC venue from October 22-27.
Topping the standings for the Leading Rider Award if Jeff Gogul, who has scored two wins and three second place prizes throughout the spring and summer. He has earned 1300 points, while the current runner up, Havens Schatt, has two wins and one second place prize for 725 points. The most recent derby winner, Jennifer Waxman, sits in the third place spot with 625 points.
WEC has also expanded its sponsorship this year to include the all-new WEC 2’6″ Non-Pro Hunter Derby series for junior and amateur riders. This series will also culminate with the first annual WEC $10,000 2’6″Non-Pro Hunter Derby at the WEC Finale Horse Show.
