Show jumper Sharn Wordley had a stellar week at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), winning two prominent classes on his mount, Gatsby. Wordley took home top honors in the first edition of the popular 2019 Saturday Night Lights series, put on every year at TIEC. Saturday nights $72,000 St. Lukes Hospital Grand Prix CSI2* saw Wordley and the 2004 Irish Sport Horse secure the win in an exciting jump-off against eight other fast second rounds. The win comes after Worldly and the stallion won the $36,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake on Thursday. Wordly competes in the innovative Slant 10 Irons and EquiFeel Signature Performance Riding Gloves.
In Louisville, Kentucky this weekend, all eyes were on the historic Churchill Downs as multiple American Equus jockey’s competed in the Kentucky Derby festivities. Irad Ortiz Jr. had impressive finish in the Kentucky Derby, placing fourth on Improbable. Earlier in the weekend, Irad also swept the Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile on Beau Recall, the American Turf S. presented by Ram Trucks on Digital Age, and finally the Old Forester Turf Classic Sprint on Bricks and Mortar; among others. Out of 35 races that take place over the Kentucky Derby weekend, American Equus Chosen Riders, Irad Ortiz Jr., Mike Smith, Manny Franco, and Ricardo Santana Jr., won an unbelievable twelve total races.
