Gilbert, AZ. – Aug. 22, 2019 – American Equus Chosen Rider Victoria Colvin has made history in becoming the first rider to ever claim the Platinum Performance/USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship three years in a row, each year on a different horse. American Equuswould like to congratulate Colvin on yet another groundbreaking achievement in her career, this time aboard Meralex Farm Inc.’s El Primero. Riding in her American Equus English Hunter EQ Slim Fillis stirrups that blend traditional style with cutting edge performance, she rode to the victory sporting the best in the industry.
Seventy-six of the world’s best hunter riders and horses gathered together at the Kentucky Horse Park where Colvin was prepared to face the challenge set before her. Ready to rise to the occasion, Colvin rode El Primero to an impeccable classic round and scores of 89, 91 and 92 from the judges. Four high option fences throughout the course gave them a total score of 284 from the judges. Although the pair went ninth in the class, they maintained their lead throughout, setting them up nicely heading into day two of competition where the handy course would take center ring.
Moving into day two of competition with confidence, Colvin, a handy course master, was determined to best the field of 36 horse and rider combinations invited back. The 21-year-old entered the derby ring in American Equus™ English Hunter EQ Slim Fillis irons, which help with balance through inside turns and give a comfortable base of support as her mounts propel through the air with style and grace.
