2019 Buffalo International Horse Show Dedicated in Memory of Hans J. Mobius

Buffalo, Ny. – Aug. 13, 2019 – The annual Buffalo International Horse Show (BIHS) returns to the Buffalo Equestrian Center in Buffalo, New York, Sept. 11-15 for its 73rd installment. This year’s event is dedicated in memory of Hans J. Mobius.

Born in Long Island, New York, Mobius served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and was stationed in Niagara Falls, New York. He eventually moved into the Buffalo Saddle & Bridle Club, now home to the Buffalo Equestrian Center, Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center and SBS Farms, Inc. It was there that he began his long equestrian career alongside Mervyn Alexander.

As a trainer, Mobius coached many top riders. He eventually became a USEF Steward and officiated at many horse shows across the country. In 1998, Mobius and his wife, Janet, purchased Maple Row Farm in Clarence, New York. His daughter, Pamela Armstrong, now manages Maple Row Farm as a boarding facility, upholding the legacy of her father. Mobius was a dedicated supporter of the Buffalo Equestrian Center and the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center before passing away at the age of 84. The BIHS is grateful for his support over the years and he will be greatly missed by all.

In addition, the BIHS is proud to feature the Stephen Comunale Jumper Classics Saturday night – the $2,500 S.A. Comunale Jr. NAL High Child/Adult Jumper Classic and the $1,500 S.A. Comunale Jr. Low Child/Adult Jumper Classic. Comunale was a regular smiling face at the Buffalo Equestrian Center before he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2006 and passed away the same year. The BTRC thanks the Stephen A. Comunale Jr. Family Cancer Foundation for their continued support of the Buffalo International Horse Show and the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center.
