Colvin has been an accomplished rider since she first stepped foot in the show ring aboard ponies as a child, and 2018 was no exception to her winning streak. Over the calendar year, the professional rider earned the prestigious Overall Hunter Rider circuit championship at the Winter Equestrian Festival, and added her name to the history books as only the second rider ever to win the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship more than once. Other accolades in 2018 included the triumph in the $25,000 Hermès U25 Grand Prix Team Event, where Colvin was the only rider to go double-clear, and her win in the $25,000 CP National Grand Prix.

With Private Practice, Colvin qualified for the WCHR Peter Wetherill Palm Beach Hunter Spectacular in Wellington, Florida, and later campaigned to consistent success during the Deeridge Derby Week, winning the Welcome Class and both rounds of the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby. The highlight of their 2018 competition year, Colvin piloted Private Practice to an exceptional victory ahead of the country’s best derby contenders to claim the top spot in the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship, effectively defending Colvin’s title as the 2017 victor, as well. In addition, the 2010 Holsteiner gelding has accrued countless tricolors across the nation in hunter divisions at the 3’9″ and 4′ fence heights.

The 2018 Equestrian of the Year will be awarded Thursday evening, January 10 at the Pegasus Awards dinner at the US Equestrian Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Fla. The 2018 National and International Horse of the Year will be awarded Saturday evening, January 12 at the Horse of the Year Awards presented by AON during the US Equestrian Annual Meeting, as well.
