Taylor St. Jacques Triumphs in Equitation Divisions on Opening Day of 2017 Devon Horse Show

Devon, Pa. – May 25, 2017 –This year’s prestigious Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, which has been running consecutively since 1896, made its debut on Thursday morning to welcome stellar competition from across the country. For years, the show has been the place “where champions meet” each May to earn top prizes, leading rider titles and bragging rights. For equitation riders, this also means the chance to accumulate points towards year-end finals.

Coming off of a high note after winning the $5,000 Equitation Challenge two weeks ago at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Show, Taylor St. Jacques continued to shine in the opening day’s equitation classes. St. Jacques hails from Glen Allen, Virginia, and trains under the expertise of Andre Dignelli and the rest of the team at Heritage Farm in Katonah, New York.

St. Jacques piloted her mount, Heritage Farm’s Charisma, to the blue ribbon and a score of 92 in Section B of the WIHS Equitation Classic Jumper Phase. The 18-year-old braved the wet weather to come out on top in the famed Dixon Oval once more to take the title in Section B of the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, after also winning Section A of the Pessoa/US Hunter Seat Medal in the Gold Ring.

After achieving the highest-scoring round in the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, St. Jacques was awarded the Honey Craven Perpetual Memorial Trophy.

While St. Jacques has had a stand-out career in the equitation ranks, this year marks the final time St. Jacques will compete in the Dixon Oval as a junior before aging out. Looking forward to the rest of Junior Weekend at the Devon Horse Show, St. Jacques is excited to show on Friday in the ASPCA Maclay and the R.W. “Ronnie” Mutch Equitation Championship as well as in the Junior Jumpers aboard her own Qantar Des Etisses.

Samantha Cohen, of New York, New York, also saw great success throughout the day on Thursday. Cohen navigated the tracks on her own Kaskade, and the duo just missed St. Jacques by one point in Section B of the WIHS Equitation Classic Jumper Phase, earning an impressive 91. Cohen also rode to third place in Section B of the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search and finished in third in Section B of the Pessoa/US Hunter Seat Medal aboard Sail Horse Investments’ Clover.

On Charisma:
“Charisma is incredible. He is an absolutely insane horse. He’s so good, and I’m very thankful that Andre [Dignelli] allows me to ride him. He’s very special.”

“He really doesn’t care [about the rain]. When he goes in the ring, he knows that it means business. He might be a little frisky out just hacking, but when he goes in the ring, he knows. He’s a real winner at heart.”

On her plan for the rest of the week:
“I want to just keep doing what I’ve been doing. The horses have all been incredible so far and hopefully the weather will be a little bit warmer tomorrow. My plan is to just stay the same and not let anything change me.”

Brian Moggre Races to Win Junior Jumper Speed Stake for Second Year in a Row

The first event of the Junior Jumper championship saw 30 young riders and their mounts vie for top honors in the $3,750 Junior Jumper Speed Stake to wrap-up competition in the Dixon Oval on Thursday.

For the second year in a row, 15-year-old Brian Moggre and his 9-year-old Thoroughbred mare, MTM Flutterby, owned by Major Wager LLC, took home the opening day win.

Course designer Kelvin Bywater set a challenging first day track, which saw nine finish clear with no faults.

Moggre’s time proved unbeatable throughout the class after crossing the finish line in 55.926 seconds as fifth in the order-of-go. Alexandra Pielet and Co-Pielet, LLC’s Helene Ve finished just one second behind Moggre in 56.803 seconds for second place honors. Taylor St. Jacques and her own Qantar Des Etisses rounded out the top three in 60.910 seconds.

The Junior Jumpers will compete again on Friday, and the champion will be crowned after Saturday night’s Show Jumping Hall of Fame Junior Jumper Classic as junior riders continue to take center stage throughout the weekend.

Brian Moggre

On MTM Flutterby:
“I’ve been riding her for about two and a half years now. She won the $250,000 Junior Jumper Prix at HITS Saugerties in September. She is amazing. We bought her originally as an investment horse and we were going to bring her up and sell her. As soon as I rode her and started jumping the bigger jumps, I knew I had to keep her. She stayed and she has been incredible.”

On his plan for the week ahead:
“We kept her a little fresh today just to see how she was going to be. She jumped around great and I am feeling really confident for this week.”

On the Devon Horse Show:
“This horse show is just so special because everyone is here, whether it’s my best friends, trainers or sponsors. It’s such a communal area and to win a class at a show like this really means a lot.”

Dog Days of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair

Horses were not the only four-legged animals who got a chance to show off in the Dixon Oval on Thursday afternoon. Following the first round of Junior Jumper competition, dogs of all shapes and sizes were invited to take part in Yappy Hour, hosted by the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair and 30 Main of Berwyn, alongside their owners in the Picnic Grove. This fun and festive evening included tastings of craft beer and spirits from local distilleries as well as sangria tastings, live music by Sin Brothers and an exclusive array of food provided by the Garden Café. Pups received doggy-friendly snow cones, Devon Doggie Goodie Bags and a special raffle from Just Fur Fun, a boutique shop specializing in upscale pet accessories.

After mingling with the other pooches at Yappy Hour, a number of dogs and their owners participated in the ‘Dog Show at The Horse Show,’ presented by What a Good Dog in the Dixon Oval. The fun exhibition featured a total of six horse show-like classes, which was judged for ribbons and other prizes.
