Sydney Degrazia Dominates Equitation Competition at 2017 Buffalo International Horse Show

Buffalo, N.Y. – Sept. 15, 2017 – A week of exciting competition continued on Friday at the 71st Buffalo International Horse Show (BIHS) in Buffalo, New York. Prestigious classes such as the ASPCA Maclay and the Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunter Seat Medal took place as well as several championships at the historic show, whose proceeds benefit the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center (BTRC).

In the ASPCA Maclay class Friday afternoon, Sydney Degrazia and her own Reveille Z claimed the first place prize. Kate Taylor and her own Eclips V took home second place in the class, and Maeve O’Donovan with Sta Enterprises, LLC’s KT Caraco placed third, while Emma Walters and the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center’s Serato rounded out the top four. The same top four continued their success in the ring, claiming ribbons in the same order in the competitive Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunter Seat Medal class following ASPCA Maclay competition.

Degrazia and Taylor stayed consistent throughout the remainder of equitation competition on Friday at the BIHS, taking the top two spots in the WIHS Equitation Jumper Phase on their respective mounts.

Taking home hunter championships on Friday were the Amateur-Owner 36 and Over 3’3″ Hunters, which was awarded to Christa Carson and her own Weatherman. Carson and Weatherman rode to first place in the final over fences round as well as the $1,000 Up The Creek Amateur-Owner 3’3″ Hunter Classic on Friday to clinch championship honors in the division. Angela Nealer and her own Essential claimed the reserve championship in the division.

Jumper competition was highlighted by the Children’s/Adult 1.10m Jumpers and the Low Children’s/Adult 1.0m Jumpers. The Children’s/Adult 1.10m Jumpers saw Aaron Donnan and Charity Donnan’s Real Super Quick live up to their name, clocking in with the fastest time to grab first place honors in both classes on Friday. Donnan also claimed another blue ribbon in the Low Children’s/Adult 1.0m Jumpers, this time aboard After Joe, while Shauna Pingrey and her own Fabrianna Dr sped their way to the top of the standings in the second class of the division.

Jumper classics for both divisions will be held on Saturday afternoon following the highly anticipated $5,000 Johnson Horse Transportation USHJA National Hunter Derby. Stay tuned for more results from the 2017 Buffalo International Horse Show throughout the rest of the weekend!
