Bonton Beach, Fla. – Feb. 2, 2017 – Palm City Polo Club hosted another week of exciting tournament play with Stone Pony winning the 6-10 goal match and Kings Hill taking the win in the 3-6 goal game.

Stone Pony Defeats Palm City Polo 6-4

On Friday, Jan. 27, in the 6-10 goal league, Stone Pony dominated over Palm City Polo, particularly Stone Pony’s Dennis Fitzpatrick, who scored five out of the six goals for the team.

“The strategy for me playing the number one position was to run up the field and receive passes from the players in the back and it worked!” said Fitzpatrick. “It was fast, fun, open and it was a beautiful day for polo. We improve a bit every time we play. It’s rewarding.”

Rick Salter scored the first goal of the game for Stone Pony and Bruce Schreiber answered back for Palm City Polo to tie the game. Fitzpatrick then recorded his first goal to end the first chukker 2-1 in favor of Stone Pony. Fitzpatrick scored two in the second chukker for Stone Pony against a single shot by Schreiber for Palm City Polo increasing Stone Pony’s lead 4-2 at halftime.

In the third chukker, Palm City Polo made a bit of a comeback with both Carlos Baez and Jeff Blake each sending one through the posts. However, the lead still belonged to Stone Pony going into the final chukker, 5-4. Fitzpatrick increased the lead for Stone Pony scoring the only goal in the final chukker for a final score of 6-4.

Kings Hill Rules Over Precise Property, Inc. 7-3

Kings Hill ruled over Precise Property, Inc. in the 3-6 goal tournament on Saturday, capturing the win 7-3. Precise Property, Inc. had one goal on the scoreboard prior to the start of the game due to handicap but Kings Hill’s strong offense throughout the match kept the opposition’s scoring at bay.

“We have been playing so well as a team this season,” said team patron Geoff Richards. “There’s a lot of good communication and ball movement. Everybody is selfless with the ball in an effort to continue to move the ball up the field to score goals. There’s a rhythm and a flow that’s developed and real cohesion that’s enabled us to play really well as a team.”

Richards scored the first two goals and the only two in the first chukker to put Kings Hill in the lead 2-1. In the second chukker, Kathy Iverson scored for Precise Property, Inc., however, Kings Hill’s Chip McKenney increased their lead by two and Jeff Blake added one for a halftime score of 5-2.

The second half of the match did not improve for Precise Property, Inc., although Jacqi Casey scored one goal for her team in the third chukker. McKenney and Jeff Sopik each scored for Kings Hill, the scoreboard still reflecting their lead, 7-3. Strong defensive play kept both teams scoreless in the fourth chukker leaving Kings Hill as the undisputed victors.

“Today’s game, like all games at Palm City Polo, was so much fun. We had great pros knocking the ball up to us. The pace was fast and open,” said McKenney. “It was an exciting day and it’s always so wonderful here!”
