Rolo Carries Augusta Iwasaki to Victory in $10,000 Interactive Mortgage USHJA International Hunter Derby in Temecula

Shiloh Roseboom, Anna Moellenhoff, Savannah Jenkins and Sarah Cline Claim Feature Classes

Temecula, Calif. – July 6, 2020 – The second week of the Temecula Valley National Summer Series, presented by Interactive Mortgage and hosted by Nilforushan Equisports Events, saw hunter riders shining bright leading up to and over the holiday weekend, including those who celebrated Independence Day early with a bang during Thursday’s $10,000 Interactive Mortgage USHJA International Hunter Derby. The competition was fierce, but it was young Augusta Iwasaki who would deliver two high-scoring rounds aboard Ariya Nathu’s Rolo to earn a final score of 375 and the title of champion in week two’s spotlight hunter class. Rounding out the top finishers were Clea Caddel and Spyglass Hill’s Cornelensky, who would earn a final score of 363 to claim the second-place honors, while Kate Conover rode Gabrielle Sokolow’s Incandescent to third place overall on a cumulative score of 359.

Always a crowd-favorite, Thursday’s $5,000 Antares Sellier NEE Hunter/Jumper Team Challenge did not disappoint during week two. The previous week’s defending championship team, Shiloh Roseboom on Enchantment Farm LLC’s Venice and Anna Moellenhoff aboard Eliza Kimball’s Chemas, emerged victorious yet again in this exciting merging of two disciplines. A unique contest, the team challenge partnered one hunter horse and rider with one jumper horse and rider in a tag-team effort. Each rider jumped a shortened course of six to eight jumps, with hunter jumps set at 3’ in height and jumper jumps set at 1.20m. Scores were calculated by subtracting the time from the jumper portion of the course from the score awarded by a judge to the hunter counterpart to determine a final tally, with the highest score winning the day. The hunter half of the duo rode first over appropriate natural fences, followed by the jumper horse-and-rider pair navigating eight brightly-colored obstacles.

One of the final classes Saturday was the $5,000 NEE Hunter Derby, where 24 horse-and-rider partnerships stepped up to the plate. Earning the top score thanks to back-to-back exemplary trips, Savannah Jenkins and Cassaland, owned by Heatherly Davis, took home top honors. Sophie Simpson and Breanne Karanikolas’ C’est Moi secured the second-place finish, and Roseboom added another top accolade to her list aboard Venice to close out the podium in third position.
