Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 15, 2019 – The Polo Players Support Group (PPSG) is grateful to have Gillian Johnston, the Orthwein family and Port Mayaca Polo Club as Trophy Sponsors of the 2019 Lucchese 40-Goal Polo Challenge, in memory of Steve Orthwein. This year’s trophy, titled “THE BATH” by Rich Roenisch, is particularly meaningful as the 2019 event is dedicated to the grooms who are so integral to the sport of polo. The families of Manuel Romero and Patricio Vasquez, two of the best polo grooms in history, as well as the family of Chuy Baez, an outstanding player and horseman, will be in attendance to remember their contribution to polo.
Polo fans will have the unique opportunity this Saturday to view the only close to 40-Goal polo match of the 2019 Florida polo season at the annual Lucchese 40-Goal Polo Challenge on Feb. 16, at International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) in Wellington, Florida. Eight of the sport’s top 10-goal or former 10-goal polo players will donate their time to play in the flagship fundraising event for the PPSG. The PPSG is a 501(c)(3) providing financial assistance to seriously injured and ill polo players and grooms.

Opening up the day’s events at 3:00 pm will be the Future 10s 4-chukker match, comprised completely of junior players of high-goal polo players. The feature game at 3:30 will challenge teams in a fast-paced 4-chukker game you won’t want to miss. Following the match, a seated dinner with live and silent auctions will take place at the Pavilion at IPC. All of the money raised is in support of the PPSG, which has provided over $2.5 million in financial assistance to 80, and counting, seriously injured or ill players and grooms.
