Nilforushan Equisport Events Partner KindredBio Announces FDA Approval of New Equine Drug, Zimeta

Temecula, Calif. – Dec. 13, 2019 – The team at Nilforushan Equisport Events (NEE) is thrilled to congratulate 2019 Temecula Valley National Horse Show partner, KindredBio, on the approval of its new equine medicine, Zimeta. Thanks to the approval from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), veterinarians will now be able to access and prescribe the first and only FDA-approved medication for the control of pyrexia (fever) in horses.
“We are so thrilled to hear of this new approval for our friends at KindredBio! They have been working and waiting for years regarding Zimeta, and we are so excited that it has finally been approved by the FDA. This drug will undoubtedly help the lives of many horses and is a perfect example of why we choose to align ourselves with this hard-working and reputable company that is as dedicated as we are to horse wellness and health,” commented Ali Nilforushan, Founder of Nilforushan Equisport Events.

The FDA approval of Zimeta is an exciting advancement for KindredBio, which is targeted to treat pyrexia, a fever associated with a number of underlying diseases and can result in significant negative outcomes, including dehydration, laminitis, muscle wasting, weight loss, and in some cases death. Among performance horses, fever can also lead to loss of training and competition days. Zimeta is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Dipyrone, the active ingredient in Zimeta, is a member of the pyrazolone class of NSAIDs and has a mechanism of action focused in the central nervous system where fever is regulated. Of the NSAIDs approved in the United States listed by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), dipyrone has the shortest established detection time in horses at 72 hours. This is the first-time dipyrone has been FDA-approved for veterinary use in the United States.
