Wellington, Fla. – Oct. 1, 2016 – From the volume of exciting sale horses finding new homes to successful show results and training progress, Marcus Fyffe Dressage’s first summer in Wellington has superseded their expectations. Canada’s David Marcus and Australia’s Nicholas Fyffe merged their dressage training business in November 2015 to offer year-round training in the horse capital of the world.
“We have loved being here during the summer and it’s been a wonderful building year for us,” Olympian David Marcus said. “The heat has not been a setback for our training program. We are really happy with the amount of work we’ve had and I’m really excited by our results and our client’s results from the national shows throughout the summer.”
Marcus Fyffe Dressage made a significant impression during the winter season and their momentum in the show ring as continued into the summer with their up and coming Grand Prix mounts.
“This year has been a really great growing period for our up and coming Grand Prix horses, Binjora and Fiero,” Marcus explained. “I’m really happy with what they have accomplished so far, not only from a training point of view, but I’m most excited by what they have shown us in the competition arena.”
Marcus purchased Binjora, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood (Hemmingway-Jora, Darnels) in 2014, and he has enjoyed training the talented gelding up through the levels. This summer the pair has entered the competition ring together for the first time earning high marks for their relaxation, walk, and the piaffe-passage tour. Binjora has competed in a handful of national competitions since May, earning impressive scores from 71 percent up to 77 percent in Intermediaire 2.
“I’m really excited about his future because I feel such a strong partnership with him,” Marcus said. “He’s exactly the same in the competition arena as he is while training at home. My goal is to be very calculated when and where I show him to insure that I don’t break his trust in anyway.
“The consistency with his connection, throughness and rhythm inspires the judges to give high scores,” Marcus continued. “He’s not the most extravagant mover but he is very correct and positive in his way of going. As he gets stronger, he is going to have a high quality piaffe and passage where the positive tension needed is equally balanced with the calm that he brings in all of his work.”
While that pair has been grabbing attention at the national shows, Fyffe and his 8-year-old PRE stallion, Fiero HGF (Grandioso III-Ibiza, Galan XVI) have also been finding success in the show ring after stepping up to Grand Prix at the beginning of the summer.
“We’ve competed in five Grand Prix classes this summer and he is already starting to find the rhythm of the test and showing real quality in his work,” Fyffe said. “I’m very excited for what our partnership is going to be and it’s about developing security and confidence in the ring. He is an incredibly ambitious horse with a talent for sitting for the collected work.”
If their horses continue to progress as they have this summer, both Marcus and Fyffe hope to be able to compete in the international Grand Prix divisions at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival during the winter season. Both Marcus and Fyffe are also currently seeking new owners, and open to relationships with breeders and syndication opportunities for international quality prospects.
While their personal horses are shining in the show ring, Marcus Fyffe Dressage’s clients are also excelling and accomplishing goals. After a successful summer competing in Europe, Tuny Page and her 13-year-old KWPN gelding Woodstock returned to Stillpoint Farm before heading up to Tryon, North Carolina. Marcus travelled to the show to coach Page at the Tryon International Equestrian Center CDI3*. Page won the CDI3* Grand Prix with a 70.66 percent and the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle with a 72.95 percent.
Not only are their international students dominating in the show ring, but Marcus Fyffe Dressage’s adult amateurs and youth riders are also claiming high scores and progressing as riders. They have sent one of their working students to train for three months in Hagen, Germany to further their skills. Another Marcus Fyffe Dressage working student, Katrina Sadis, has been enjoying learning upper-level movements on Tuny Page’s Grand Prix schoolmaster, Alina.
One of Marcus Fyffe Dressage’s newest students is 2015 North American Junior Championship Gold Medalist, Helen Claire McNulty. McNulty had previously resided in Michigan before moving down to train with Marcus and Fyffe year round with the goal of qualifying for the young rider division next year.
“Both David and Nicholas are very detail oriented, clear and concise in their instruction,” her mother, Diane McNulty explained. “They give her confidence in her riding and they are demanding. They expect the best from her but are respectful too.”
