North Salem, N.Y. – Sept. 17, 2019 – Each year, the American Gold Cup brings together show jumping’s top athletes to showcase their skills during the world-class competition. Dennis Sisco and M. Michael Meller of QBS Equestrian are proud to support the exciting World Cup event. This year, in addition to their sponsorship of the competition, the M. Michael Meller Style Award, donated in memory of Meller’s mother Harriette Meller, was presented to Lucy Deslauriers.
The M. Michael Meller Style of Riding Award is presented to the athlete that exhibits the best combination of horsemanship, skill and presentation while competing. Graciously accepting the award, Deslauriers commented, “It feels really special to be honored in this way. All of us behind the scenes know that a lot goes into performing in the ring, so to be recognized for something that isn’t just results is really important and special. I am honored that Michael chose me.”
Deslauriers continued, “Sportsmanship in any sport is really important. In our sport in particular, working with animals, and them giving so much of themselves every time we go in the ring only increases the importance of sportsmanship. Emulating that is important no matter what your results are.”
Just 19 years old, Deslauriers has been a staple on the show jumping scene for many years, showcasing her skills in the saddle and earning several top accolades. Most recently, she was part of the U.S. Show Jumping team at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
“Lucy is a very talented young rider who truly loves her horses,” expressed Meller. “She is very passionate about the sport and is always ringside to cheer on her fellow competitors and offer support. Lucy has a natural way with the horses and it was wonderful to be able to present her with this award at such a special venue.”
Meller continued, “The American Gold Cup at Old Salem Farm is a truly unique event bringing together some of the world’s best athletes at a truly amazing location. The show organizers have done an incredible job. Dennis and I believe in supporting world-class competitions that showcase the best the sport has to offer.”
