Leo Conroy Maclay Grant Supports Equitation Riders at 2018 National Horse Show

Lexington, KY – July 18, 2018 The National Horse Show is proud to announce the return of the Leo Conroy Maclay Grant (LCMG). The grant was established in 2015 to honor long-time horseman Leo Conroy, who co-managed the National Horse Show and was Chairman of the National Horse Show Equitation Committee.

The National Horse Show will once again welcome the top equestrian athletes to the Kentucky Horse Park on October 27 – November 4, 2018.

2017 Leo Conroy Maclay Grant Recipients

To commemorate Conroy’s loyalty and dedication to equestrian sport, the National Horse Show established a grant fund in his name: The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant (LCMG). This grant will be awarded to up to five (5) Maclay riders and three (3) Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation riders who demonstrate a financial need in order to participate in the Maclay Finals at the NHS.

The Guidelines:

1) The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant is open to riders who qualify through the Regional competitions to compete in the ASPCA Maclay Finals and riders who qualify for the Hamel Foundation 3’3” Equitation Championships. Riders must apply online from September 15 – October 5 at www.nhs.org to be considered for the grant.

2) The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant will provide financial assistance for up to five (5) Maclay riders and three (3) 3’3” Equitation riders. Selected riders will receive entry fees and stall fees at the ASPCA Maclay Finals OR the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championship at the NHS provided by an anonymous sponsor.

3) The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant will require the following information: Rider’s complete contact information, trainer’s complete contact information, and three (3) references. Applicants will also be required to complete a two-part essay.

Two-Part Essay:

Part 1: How have your equestrian experiences added to the development of your personal character?

Part 2: Describe the applicant’s basis for financial need.

Beginning September 15, applicants can apply by visiting the National Horse Show website and completing the form with the information outlined above. All applications must be completed and submitted online through www.nhs.org.

No hard copy applications will be accepted. Applications will be accepted between September 15, 2018 and October 5, 2018. Applicants will receive a confirmation email when their application is received. Applicants will receive a response by October 16, 2018.

Founded in 1833, the National Horse Show is the culmination of the summer equestrian season. With $845,000 in prize money offered, the National Horse Show has been designated a CSI4*-W event by the FEI. This year, the National Horse Show will offer new Equitation Championships, including the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3” Eq. Championship, the Taylor Harris Insurance Services NHS 3′ Adult Eq. Championships, the Boggs Hill NHS KHJA Eq. Championships, and a day of age group equitation classes. In addition, the National Horse Show is excited to announce the new National Horse Show $50,000 Hunter Classic, joining a prestigious line up of classes including the ASPCA Maclay Finals presented by Chansonette Farm, the Hollow Brook Wealth Management SJHOF Series Championship, and the world-renown $250,000 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Lexington.
