Lexington, KY – Feb. 15, 2018- The National Horse Show is proud to announce the expansion of the Leo Conroy Maclay Grant to include three athletes competing in the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3” Equitation Championship. The grant will provide financial assistance for the selected riders to compete at the National Horse Show.
Leo Conroy, co-manager of the National Horse Show and Chairman of the NHS Equitation Committee, passed away early in January 2015. Leo was a valuable asset to the NHS and a devoted supporter. To commemorate his loyalty and dedication, the National Horse Show has established a grant fund in his name: The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant. This grant will be awarded to up to five (5) Maclay Finals riders and three (3) Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championship riders who demonstrate a financial need in order to participate in the National Horse Show
1. The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant will provide financial assistance for up to five (5) Maclay Finals riders and three (3) Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championship riders.
Selected riders will receive the following:
Entry fees and stall at the ASPCA Maclay Finals OR the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championship at the NHS provided by an anonymous sponsor
Stipend of $1,000 to cover additional show-related expenses to compete in the ASPCA Maclay Finals OR the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championships at the National Horse Show
2. The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant is open to riders who qualify to compete in the ASPCA Maclay Finals through the Regional competitions, and those who qualify to compete in the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championships. Riders must apply online from September 15 – October 5, 2018, to be considered for the Grant. Previous recipients of the Leo Conroy Maclay Grant may not re-apply.
3. The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant will require the following:
-Rider’s complete contact information
-Trainer’s complete contact information
-Three (3) references
-Two-part essay:
-Part 1: State why the ASPCA Maclay Finals OR the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championship is important to the National Horse Show and to the applicant
-Part 2: Describe the applicant’s basis for financial need
4.The Leo Conroy Maclay Grant Committee will thoroughly review all applicants, and award the Grant up to five (5) qualified Maclay Finals riders and three (3) Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3″ Equitation Championship riders based upon the application and required two-part essay.
Qualified riders can apply online at nhs.org between September 15 and October 5, 2018, and must complete the form with the information outlined above.
No hard copy applications will be accepted. Applications will be accepted between September 15, 2018 and October 5, 2018. Applicants will receive a confirmation email when their application is received. Applicants will receive a response by October 17, 2018.
