Jockey Callan Murray Joins American Equus as the Newest Chosen Rider

Gilbert, AZ. – July 29, 2019 –  American Equus is excited to announce that 23-year-old Callan Murray, a Singapore-based South African jockey, is the newest Chosen Rider for the Arizona based manufacturer of revolutionary stirrups and spurs for all equestrian disciplines.

“One of my friends here in Singapore that I have been riding with let me ride in his American Equus stirrups. From the moment I put my foot in them I knew I really liked them so I ordered my first pair. It wasn’t long before I was ordering a few more pairs because I enjoyed using them so much,” shared Murray. “When I heard about the program American Equus had, I knew it would be great to get involved with because I love their stirrups so much and use them everyday.”
The start of Murray’s career began when he was only 15-years-old and attended the South African Jockey Academy, an academic and practical apprentice program for youth that want to become professional jockeys. In 2013, he completed his first race, only the beginning of the impressive resume Murray would build from a young age.
In the 2014/2015 season, Murray finished second on the apprentice jockey’s log. He went on to win both the South African and Zimbabwean titles in the 2015/2016 season. His 2017 season marked his most notable year yet when he rode three horses to individual Grade 1 wins at the Champions Day race meeting at Turffontein, including the Premier’s Champions Challenge, the Computaform Sprint and the Mustaaqeem.

“We always love expanding the American Equus family, especially when it includes athletes  like Callan Murray,” remarked David Shano, founder of American Equus. “He makes the perfect addition to our roster of elite jockeys and we are looking forward to carrying him to many more wins in the future.”
Today, Murray is licensed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. More than 370 impressive wins represent his success as a rider and American Equus is proud to be his stirrup of choice. American Equus’ Thoroughbred Racing Irons combine innovation and luxury to provide jockeys like Murray with comfortable irons that are lightweight and durable.
