Join H&C TV and relive all of the final moments from this year’s action-packed world championships here.
H&C TV viewers can watch highlights from each discipline at the following schedule (all times EST):
The vaulting championships concluded with the final freestyle of the team competition, where Germany claimed gold and Switzerland and Austria took home silver and bronze, respectively. The U.S. Vaulting Team finished just off the podium in fourth place.
After all three phases of driving competition (dressage, marathon and cones), the U.S. Driving Team, made up of Chester Weber, Misdee Wrigley-Miller and James Fairclough, made history by winning their first-ever team gold medal at a WEG, while Weber also secured the individual silver medal. Australia’s Boyd Exell took his fifth individual world champion title and Belgium’s Edouard Simonet secured individual bronze.
The U.S. Para-Equestrian Dressage Team, presented by Deloitte, also brought home a record-breaking four medals in the para-dressage competition. Athletes Rebecca Hart (Grade III silver medal), Kate Shoemaker (Grade IV bronze medal) and Roxanne Trunnell (Grade I bronze medal) increased the medal tally for the U.S. in their respective freestyle divisions, while Hart also earned another individual bronze medal with El Corona Texel earlier in the week in the Grade III championship with a 72.235 percent — the first time the U.S. had earned a para medal in a world championship.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to end [a home WEG] with four medals,” said U.S. Para-Equestrian Dressage Team Chef d’Équipe Kai Handt. “This is the best [performance] we have had in terms of medals. We have a very young team with young horses and over the last four days they got more and more secure with them. I think the girls were pumped to show what they really could do.”
In addition, the fourth and final episode in H&C TV’s “Road to FEI WEG” series will premiere on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8:30 p.m. and will provide a full review of the entire 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games™.
WEG is held every four years in the middle of the Olympic cycle, and is one of the biggest events on the equestrian calendar. It features a total of eight equestrian disciplines: show jumping, dressage, para-dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. It was the major global championship of 2018.
The 2018 games were held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, North Carolina, Sept. 11–23.
