From mule pole bending to high performance hunters and impressive 6-Horse Hitches, the schedule will feature exciting competition during their rodeo classes, NRCHA Reined Cow Horse Show, USEF Hunter/Jumper Show and the Draft Horse, Mule & Donkey Show. Held annually every January at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado, the National Western Stock Show is a premier event you don’t want to miss.
A recognized western heritage and entertainment event in the U.S. since 1906, the stock show hosts one of the world’s richest regular season professional rodeos, one of the country’s largest horse shows and Colorado’s largest western trade show, attracting attendance numbers over 650,000 visitors each year. Throughout the historic event, the National Western strives to strengthen agriculture through enrichment programs and youth education in livestock, equestrian, farming, ranching, animal awareness and appreciation.

Saturday, Jan. 11: Invitational Ranch Rodeo
To kick off the two week event, H&C TV will stream the Invitational Ranch Rodeo presented by Colorado Barricade on Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. MST. The National Western Invitational Ranch Rodeo will consist of eight four-man teams competing in four events which demonstrate tasks commonly performed on a ranch with equipment and tack they typically use during everyday ranch life. Instead of showcasing professional rodeo riders, this competition is unique as most contestants are full-time ranch hands who represent their farm.
Sunday, Jan. 12: $25,000 RAM Invitational Freestyle Reining
One of the spectators’ favorite events at the National Western Stock Show is the RAM Invitational Freestyle Reining, which takes place Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. MST. This year is the 25th anniversary of the highlight event featuring top U.S. reiners competing creative freestyles with fun music and costumes.
Tuesday, Jan. 14 & Wednesday, Jan. 15: NRCHA Reined Cow Horse Show
Beginning at 8:00 a.m. MST on Tuesday, The National Reined Cow Horse Association’s Reined Cow Horse Show will feature classes including the Herd Work for Open Derby, Limited Open Derby, Novice Horse Derby, and Non-Pro Derby divisions, as well as Rein & Box Work for Non-Pro Limited division. On Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. MST, riders will be competing in Rein & Fence Work for Open Derby, Limited Open Derby, Novice Horse Derby, Open Hackamore, Non-Pro Derby, and Non-Pro Hackamore classes.
Friday, Jan. 17- Monday, Jan. 20: USEF/USHJA Hunter Jumper Show
On Friday, Jan. 17- Monday, Jan. 20, the show will switch up the schedule for four days of a USEF/USHJA Hunter Jumper Show. The hunter classes, which begin at 7:00 a.m. MST each day, will include a wide array of professional, amateur and junior divisions including Performance Hunters, Green Hunters, High Performance, Low Hunters, and Amateur Owner Hunters. When the jumpers take to the ring there will be classes including the Low Jumpers, Modified Jumpers, Junior/AO Jumpers, Childrens Jumpers and multiple stake classes. Equitation will also be highlighted with the competitive ASPCA Horsemanship class on Jan. 18, the USEF Hunter Seat Medal on Jan. 19, and the THIS National Children’s Medal on Jan. 20.
In the jumper ring, the evening classes will definitely be a hit for the entire family! On Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. MST, the entertaining $15,000 Monarch Casino Gambler’s Choice Jumper Stake will keep you on the edge of your seat. The $5,000 Top of the Rockies Jumper Stake Top will begin at 7:30 p.m. MST on Jan. 18, while the jumping competition will conclude Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m. MST with the thrilling $40,000 Grand Prix presented by Monarch Casino.
Tuesday, Jan. 21-Wednesday, Jan. 22 – National Western Horseman’s Challenge
Unique to the National Western Stock Show, their Horseman’s Challenge provides a challenging and educational opportunity for equestrians of all ages and with any breed of horse, pony, mule or donkey! Horse-and-rider combinations will be required to maneuver various obstacles to test their horsemanship and confidence in each other. The difficulty of the obstacles will vary depending on the level and ages of the participants. The National Western Horseman’s Challenge will take place Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 at 8:00 a.m. MST.
Thursday, Jan. 23-Sunday, Jan. 26: Draft Horse, Mule & Donkey Show
To wrap up the final weekend of the event, H&C TV will provide live coverage of the entertaining Draft Horse, Mule & Donkey Show. The show will begin
Jan. 23 at 9:00 a.m. MST with various trail classes, Mule Ranch Riding, Draft Gelding Team, Draft Mare Team, Draft Ladies Team and Draft Mare Unicorn Hitch. Halter and showmanship classes will kick off bright and early Jan. 24 at 8:00 a.m. MST before competition continues at 12:00 p.m. MST with many classes including Log Skid Races, under saddle classes, 4-Horse Hitches and a Donkey Barrel Race. The highlight of the day, the Classic Draft 6-Horse Hitch and Draft Light Weight Pulling Contest will be at 7:00 p.m. MST.
The fun is just getting started because on Jan. 25 at 8:00 a.m. MST the show will highlight Mule & Draft Obstacle Driving, a Youth Mule Barrel Race, a Mule Keyhole Race, Mule Pole Bending, Donkey Western Pleasure and the Draft Horse Classic Cart. Saturday’s second section of the day at 1:00 p.m. MST will feature Draft/Mule Feed Team Races, Draft Mare Unicorn Hitches, a Draft 4-Horse Gelding Pitch and a Draft Middle Weight Pulling Contest. On Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. MST The Classic Draft 6-Horse Hitch will continue their competition, plus other classes including Mule Pole Bending, a Draft/Mule Feed Team Race and the Draft Working Team will take place.
On the final day of the National Western Stock Show, young horsemen will take to the ring Jan. 26 at 9:00 a.m. MST to compete in the Youth Draft Horse Cart & Team as well as the Youth Mule Pleasure Driving classes. Later in the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. MST, the show will wrap up with the Draft 8-Horse Hitch, the Junior Mule Western Pleasure, the Draft Heavy Weight Pulling Contest and many more!
