GPL Polotini Presents Wigstock, A Hair-Raising Benefit For Compass LGBTQ Youth Services To Kick-Off 9th Annual Land Rover Palm Beach International Gay Polo Tournament

Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 20, 2018 – Get colorful, creative and ready to wig-out in style during “GPL Polotini Presents Wigstock,” a hair-raising benefit for Compass LGBTQ Youth Services at the Wanderers Club in Wellington, Fla. that will kick-off public festivities for the 9th Annual Land Rover Palm Beach International Gay Polo Tournament on Friday, April 6, at 7 p.m. Hosted by The Gay Polo League, this party with a purpose will help at-risk LGBTQ youth in the areas of education, health and homelessness with featured headline entertainers Michael Dean as “Cher” and Velvet Lenore as “Donna Summer.”

According to The Williams Institute, the number of homeless youth in this country is estimated at a staggering 1.6 million. LGBTQ youth make up an estimated 40% of that number.

“We are excited about our charity partnership with Compass LGBTQ Youth Services and are strongly committed to using this event as a platform to raise awareness and funds to help LGBTQ youth overcome the many challenges they face daily,” said Chip McKenney, founder and president of the Gay Polo League. “The organization’s ideals and programs, including promoting pride in the community, acting as an educator, advocate, health service provider, and being a focal point for community organizing, align perfectly with those of the Gay Polo League.”

This year’s “GPL Polotini Presents Wigstock” party invites guests to don their favorite wigs; the more outrageous, the better. No wig? No problem! The Party Patrol will be on-hand with a variety of faux tresses available to rent for the evening.

Velvet Lenore will perform as “Donna Summer” and Michael Dean will perform as “Cher”

Food and drinks will be flowing at this festive poolside soiree. “Cher” and “Donna Summer” will take the stage performing hits from their famous careers.

“It is an honor to perform during this internationally recognized event which celebrates healthy competition and diversity,” said performer Michael Dean as Cher. “This year’s fundraiser will not only be a great way to kick-off the polo matches, but it will also raise awareness and funds for Compass Youth Services, a Palm Beach treasure for the LGBTQ community.”

Compass Youth Services’ mission is to diminish stereotypes by challenging long-standing misconceptions about the character of the LGBTQ community. The net funds raised from the event will be used on behalf of GPL to purchase several new computers for the Youth Center, as well as health kits and food/shelter vouchers.

“Compass is partnering with Gay Polo League to expand services through education, health services and addressing homelessness for LGBTQ youth in Palm Beach County. Our youth need us and you can make a difference by getting involved in the Gay Polo League’s Polotini party,” said Compass representative Julia Murphy.

This fundraiser precedes the 9th Annual Land Rover Palm Beach International Gay Polo Tournament that commences on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, April 8, at 3 p.m. at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
