David Marcus Sells His Talented Grand Prix Mount Binjora

Wellington, Fla. – March 31, 2017 – Marcus Fyffe Dressage is pleased to announce new ownership of David Marcus’ talented up-and-coming Grand Prix horse, Binjora. The 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Hemmingway-Jora, Darnels) was purchased by Dr. Jorge Ferreira da Rocha with the goal of competing at international Grand Prix competitions. Binjora, also known as “Clyde,” was the primary upper-level mount of Olympian David Marcus, and was owned by Marcus together with his parents Van and Judy Marcus.

“It is bittersweet any time you sell your own horse,” Marcus said. “Clyde is not only a really talented Grand Prix horse, but has the most amazing temperament, character and rideability. He has been such a joy and pleasure to own, train and compete.”

In 2014, when Marcus was in Germany preparing for the World Equestrian Games, he purchased Binjora. The gelding was a green Fourth Level horse and with Marcus’ expertise, developed into a confident and successful Grand Prix mount. The pair entered the competition ring together for the first time in the summer of 2016, earning high marks for their relaxation, walk and the piaffe-passage tour. Binjora was later awarded the 2016 Adequan®/USDF Intermediate II Dressage Horse of the Year with an average of 74.671 percent.

“I hope it will be a great match for Dr. Rocha because Clyde has such a wonderful character and work ethic,” Marcus continued. “I’m looking forward to seeing their partnership develop, and knowing that he was going to such a great home really sealed the deal for me.”

Earlier this year, German Olympian and renowned dressage trainer, Hubertus Schmidt, showed interest in the talented gelding after coaching Marcus on Binjora.

“I was looking for a Grand Prix horse for my client who is older but very interested in top horses,” Schmidt explained. “The quality of the horse was very important as well as its character and training. Most horses that are quite special are a little too spooky or nervous, but Binjora is really nice with a perfect character. He is so sensitive and very willing to go, but on the other side really quiet and not spooky. Binjora is very well trained with a spectacular piaffe and passage – that together makes him a perfect horse for my client.”

Marcus was a member of the Canadian dressage team at the London Olympic Games and works alongside husband and fellow Grand Prix trainer Nicholas Fyffe at Marcus Fyffe Dressage. Their successful international Grand Prix dressage careers give them a wealth of knowledge and ability to coach youth riders, adult amateurs and professionals to the highest level of competition. They utilize their hands-on experience to identify and develop prospective dressage horses to their full potential.

“I have so much respect for Hubertus,” Marcus explained. “I was really flattered that he loved not only the horse, but also the way Binjora had been developed and trained correctly up through Grand Prix. We look forward to seeing him go and do great things with his new rider!”
