Daisy Farish and Katherine Newman Kick Off Traverse City Fall Horse Show CSI3* with Performance Hunter Division Championships

Traverse City, Mich. – Aug. 27, 2020 – A competitive field of hunter riders and their respective mounts took to the Main Hunter Ring at the Flintfields Horse Park to kick off the Traverse City Fall Horse Show CSI3*, presented by Turtle Creek Hotel & Casino. The first set of hunter champions were crowned as professional and amateur competitors from across the country vied for top honors. Young professional Daisy Farish nearly swept the Performance 3’6’’ Hunter division, claiming the championship aboard Ravello, owned by Summit Farms LLC. In the Performance 3’3’’ Hunter division, it was Katherine Newman and Dandelion that ultimately rode to the championship title.

Daisy Farish and Ravello

Farish and the 8-year-old Warmblood gelding swept Wednesday’s portion of the 3’6’’ division, claiming both first place ribbons over fences and first place under saddle. No stranger to the winner’s circle, Ravello has previously earned countless tricolor honors with Liza Boyd in the irons. Now owned and shown by junior rider Maggie Hill, Farish had the chance to take the reins for a catch ride on the seasoned mount.

With a strong lead heading into Thursday’s portion of the division, Farish effortlessly piloted Ravello over Andy Christiansen’s (ECU) 8-obstacle track to claim first and second place in the final two over fences rounds to clinch the tricolor. The reserve championship was awarded to Samantha Schaefer aboard Trademark, owned by Take 3 LLC.

Katherine Newman and Dandelion

Allwyn Court’s Dandelion, piloted by Newman, claimed the Performance 3’3’’ Hunter division championship. During Wednesday’s portion of the division, Newman and the 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare earned first and second place over fences, including second place under saddle. The duo maintained their lead Thursday, claiming first and third place to close out the last two over fences rounds with the championship.

The Performance 3’3’’ Hunter division saw a unique three-way tie for reserve champion honors to include Tim Goguen and Bellhaven Stables LLC’s Casual, Farish riding Cynthia Chaconas’ Benji, and Julia Rossow aboard Malibu Valley Farms Inc.’s Chantilly.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Daisy Farish – Performance 3’6’’ Hunter champion

On Ravello:
“He is actually a new ride to me; he is owned by Maggie Hill and in the past he has been ridden by Liza Boyd who has had great success with him. He is definitely one of the more seasoned horses and I was lucky to get to show him this week. Maggie Hill is here with us in Michigan for these few weeks and her hunter came down for [Adequan/USEF Junior Hunter National Championships – East Coast] and stayed with us so I got to show him this week. He is a fantastic horse. This is the first week I’ve ridden him but thanks to him he is simple and easy and he made it not very difficult to get to know him.

On the courses:
“The courses were great this week. I thought the handy round was fun and it kind of reminded of a jump off. I had fun with that because I had a few horses in the class. Ravello being one of the more seasoned horses, he definitely really started turning and he landed all of his leads, so that class was really fun. Today I loved that the single oxer was way down in the ring so I could take a nice gallop to it. I enjoyed the courses all week.”

On Traverse City Horse Shows:
“I’ll be here for the next three weeks. Michigan has definitely become one of my favorite shows of the summer and I have no problem staying here for six weeks as I have this summer! It’s been great here. I have to say yesterday was extremely impressive with the way the footing held up with our torrential downpours all day and there was never a problem in the ring. I’d like to thank Maggie Hill and her family for the ride on Ravello this week and also Ken and Emily Smith of Ashland Farms for the opportunity.”
