$30,000 in Prize Money Up for Grabs in Inaugural Pro/Am Equitation Cup at Temecula Valley National Horse Show

Temecula, Calif. – Feb. 11, 2020 – The Temecula Valley National Horse Show (TVNHS) is thrilled to announce the addition of the debut $30,000 Pro/Am Equitation Cup, to be held during the Premiere Week of the show, which takes place April 15-19. This one-of-a-kind class will offer a unique opportunity for top-notch equitation talent to go head-to-head at Galway Downs, the host of the four-week series. Held over two days, the equitation class will feature a team competition and an individual competition, with riders vying for $30,000 in prize money over two days. As professional, juniors and amateurs will have the exciting opportunity to compete both with and against each other, the class is a perfect addition to the TVNHS schedule as the Nilforushan Equisport Events management team aims to infuse more fun and inventiveness into the West Coast equestrian scene.

The $30,000 Pro/Am Equitation Cup will test riders to demonstrate proper form and precision.

$15,000 Team Competition – Round One will kick off on Friday, April 17, and the jumps will be a mix of hunter and jumper style obstacles. As riders challenge the course, they will be judged on riding style, technique and accuracy. Round Two will occur on Saturday, April 18, and will be an advanced jumper/equitation course with a time-allowed. Judges will look for competitors to execute the track in an efficient and prompt manner. Each team will consist of three riders, including no more than one professional and two (or three) juniors and amateurs. The team with the highest cumulative score at the end of Round One and Round Two will be declared the winners. Ribbons will be awarded to the top 5 teams, and prize money will be awarded to the top 3 teams.

$15,000 Individual Competition – The top 12 individual riders from Rounds One and Two of the team competition will continue on to an immediate Third Round on Saturday. Similar to Round Two, riders can expect a jumper/equitation course with a time-allowed. Judges will focus on the promptness and efficiency of each rider while also looking for style, technique and accuracy. At the end of the the jumping phase, it will be up to the judges’ discretion to hold a work-off. Ribbons will be awarded to all 12 riders, and prize money will be awarded to the top 5 individuals.
