Interns are mentored by a seasoned account executive to ensure a quality level of education in the areas of public relations, journalism, client management and more. Throughout the program, interns will be responsible for photographing and writing news articles about the Winter Equestrian Festival, the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, other competitions and clinics for our news websites, PhelpsSports.com and PSdressage.com. They will also support hands-on tasks ranging from publishing press releases and feature magazine articles to social media management and website maintenance.
Ideal candidates should have an equestrian background with majors in public relations, marketing, journalism or a related field. Applicants should have strong writing skills and some knowledge of equestrian competition. Experience in photography and/or graphic design is helpful but not required.
The winter internship is available from January through early April in Wellington, Florida, while the summer internship runs from late May through August with interns traveling across the United States for horse show coverage. It is a paid internship and interns must be able to provide their own housing and transportation. PMG will also assist with anything required for academic credit.

“From day one I was welcomed into the Phelps Media Group family with open arms, and my internship was truly an experience of a lifetime. As an intern, I was able to wear many different hats, from interviewing Olympic athletes to writing articles about competition at the Winter Equestrian Festival, writing press releases for clients and even creating social media content. I stepped out of my comfort zone and grew as a public relations professional, and through it all I gained a new circle of amazing friends!”
“Each day was exciting, and the program gave me amazing insight on every angle of the media world. My favorite memory was seeing my first article published. After learning how to shoot with a professional camera, interview the winning rider and write articles, seeing the end result published was a very rewarding feeling. The first time developing an article was nerve racking but the support from the staff at PMG was tremendous.”
“PMG provided me the chance to develop skill sets that I will take with me wherever my career leads. Every day promised a new opportunity to learn and explore the industry. If you are looking for a slow-paced, coffee-fetching internship, this is certainly not it! The leadership team at PMG has fostered a truly unique work environment composed of employees who are passionate about their clients.”
