Wellington, FL - May 18, 2012- Some horse and rider pairs are destined for greatness, and Todd Flettrich and his equine partner, Otto, are one of those dynamic duos. Like horse and rider icons Roy and Trigger or Red and Seabiscuit, Todd and Otto are vying for their place in history as they travel on their hopeful journey to the Big Show-the 2012 Olympic Games in London. With the help of Phelps Media Group, you’ll have a front-row seat to the excitement along the way.
Flettrich and Otto have had a tremendous partnership over the past three years, experiencing the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Lexington, KY, and now working toward earning a spot on the United States Olympic Dressage Team this summer. The next step on the road to London is the USEF Dressage Selection Trials for the 2012 Olympic Games to be held at the USET Foundation Headquarters in Gladstone, NJ, June 8-10 and June 13-14.
Otto, a 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, is owned by Margaret Duprey of Cherry Knoll Farm in West Grove, PA and Wellington, FL. She is also one of Flettrich’s students but she doesn’t ride Otto. She leaves that to Flettrich.
“When you have a partnership such as Todd and Otto have, you don’t need someone else in there messing around with the partnership,” Duprey said. “I think when you have the high performance horses, the riders have to have that relationship in order for the horse to give his heart and give his best. It what makes the horse give his all for his rider.”
Flettrich has been keeping Otto carefully conditioned but without stressing his joints too much. He includes hacking out as part of his regime in order to strengthen Otto’s topline and to give the horse a refreshing mental break from the stress of the arena.
“This is the chance of a lifetime,” Flettrich said. “I just am going to continue to do the good job I have been doing. Hopefully with a little luck, things will work out in my direction.”
Duprey has full confidence in Flettrich’s plans. “I am really happy with the plan Todd has laid out, and at each show Otto has continued to improve,” she said. “He has been extremely consistent. All of their hard work is reflected in their scores.”
Phelps Media Group will bring all the scores and updates on Team Todd and Otto via traditional media outlets as well as Facebook. “Todd and Otto are a great team and everyone should be on the lookout for them in London,” President of Phelps Media Group, Inc., Mason Phelps, Jr. said. “And we intend to bring you all the exciting updates in their quest to go for the gold in the Olympic Games this summer.”
No matter what the outcome at the Gladstone selection trials in June, Duprey plans on being in London and hopes she’s there to cheer on Team Todd and Otto.
“It truly comes down to the love of the sport,” she said.
