Lene Bruheim Wins High Children’s Jumper Championship at Texas Shoot Out

Tyler, TX – May 1, 2012 – The winning show season for Nordic Lights Farm continued last week during the Texas Shoot Out Horse Show in Tyler, TX. Junior rider Lene Bruheim took home the High Children’s Jumper Championship aboard her talented mount NLF Valhall after winning two classes in the division. Also representing Nordic Lights Farm, professional rider Peter Pletcher claimed the victory in the USHJA International Hunter Derby with NLF Shakespeare’s Rhythm.

Lene Bruheim and NLF Valhall were at the top of their game this weekend during the Texas Shoot Out Horse Show. She started off with a double-clear effort in Saturday’s High Children’s Jumper class to earn the blue ribbon honors. On Sunday, the duo laid down another pair of fault-free rounds to place second during the next class. The High Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper Classic concluded the weekend, where Lene and NLF Valhall produced the fastest short course to earn another win. Their performance over the weekend garnered the High Children’s Jumper Championship. With her second mount Jessika, Lene placed third in the 1.15m Open Jumpers on Friday, and later placed fifth and eighth in the High Children’s Jumpers.

“It was really a pleasure to compete during this week’s horse show,” expressed Lene. “NLF Valhall was amazing as usual, and we both really enjoyed all the courses and the challenges each one presented. I'm still learning how to switch between Jessika and him, but Jessika is being very patient with me and she is a phenomenal horse.”

Once again, Peter Pletcher has had great success with NLF Shakespeare’s Rhythm, beginning with the reserve championship in the Second Year/High Performance Hunter division after earning a first place ribbon and two second place ribbons. They then went on the USHJA International Hunter Derby, which is quickly proving to be their main event. The pair tied for first during the handy round, creating a jump-off which NLF Shakespeare’s Rhythm nailed to have a winning score of 572 and lead the victory gallop.

“Good old Hamlet did it again, he was awesome,” said Plecther. “He knocked it out of the park during the handy round, and ended up tying with one of my other mounts. They both really went well in the third round, which is the first jump-off they have had for anyone tied after the second round. He was spectacular and did all the high options. One of the jumps was a huge coop and he jumped it unbelievably each round. During the jump-off, he jumped the high options easily and he was just amazing.”

Amateur rider Eirin Bruheim was also successful during the Texas Shoot Out Horse Show, where she piloted NLF Trans Atlantic to the second place honors in the Medium Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumpers with a double clear effort.

“This weekend was a pretty good weekend for me,” commented Eirin. “I only showed a few days because I had finals. I did NLF Trans Atlantic in a Medium Junior/AO class where he ended up second, which is really good considering his recent time off due to injury. At the end of the week Tackeray came and he felt like heaven to ride, although he was really fresh after being in quarantine for so long.”

Nordic Lights Farm will continue to show in Tyler, TX in April and May before heading east to compete during the prestigious Devon Horse Show in Devon, PA.

Nordic Lights Farm is a 70-acre establishment located in Tomball, TX, that was founded in 2007 by the Bruheim family to help further the equestrian goals of 19-year-old Eirin Bruheim and 17-year-old Lene Bruheim. Both girls have worked their way up through the ranks and are currently competing at the top levels in the hunter and jumper divisions aboard their incredible string of horses.
