Georgina Bloomberg Plays Key Part in United States Victory at the Samsung Super League in La Baule, France
Wellington, Fl – May 6 – The equestrian team from the United States of America topped the show jumping teams from Great Britain and France to win the opening event on the 2005 Samsung Super League Tour on Friday, May 6, at La Baule, France. The team Germany finished in fourth place, followed by Belgium and Switzerland in fifth and sixth.
Georgina Bloomberg of New York City, competing in her first ever Super League event, was joined by U.S. show jumping veterans Laura Kraut of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Schuyler Riley of Wellington, Florida and Beezie Madden of Cazenovia, New York. Kraut and Madden are both U.S. Olympic veterans, Kraut in 2000 at Sydney, Australia, and Madden was a member of the Silver Medal squad at Athens, Greece, in 2004.
Bloomberg, one of America’s fastest rising young equestrian stars, produced one of two first round clear efforts for the United States aboard her 13 year old gelding, Riviera, owned by the Gotham Enterprizes of New York City.
“The ladies were unstoppable today and Georgina was fantastic in her first major Nations Cup,” said Bloomberg’s trainer Jimmy Doyle. “She was as cool as she could be and just rode beautifully today.”
Bloomberg, on fire since sweeping to circuit championships and major victories at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida in April, started strong in France with a second and two third place finish, leading up to today’s Samsung Super League win. Riding Nadia, owned by the Gotham Enterprizes, Bloomberg was second to teammate Laura Kraut in the Friday morning speed class.
This is Bloomberg’s second trip to Europe as part of the United States effort, but her first time on the “big tour.” She was part of the USET Developing Riders Tour in 2004. Bloomberg is a previous two time Gold Medalist at the North American Young Riders Championships.
The Samsung Super League Tour continues in Rome, Italy, on May 26-29, 2005. Stops follow in Switzerland, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Ireland and Germany. The final round and championship will be held on September 15-18, 2005, at Barcelona, Spain.
The United States Show Jumping Team is funded by the United States Equestrian Team Foundation in association with the United States Equestrian Federation.
