Release Date: 2011-03-30

Katy, TX – March 30, 2011 –The Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show is just around the corner, and the top horse and rider combinations are preparing to travel to this incredible horse show where they will compete for $250,000 in total prize money. The hunter divisions alone will be awarding an unprecedented $150,000 in prize money to the winning combinations during the weeklong event, running prizes April 5-10, 2011 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in beautiful Katy, Texas. This unique hunter/jumper event draws the top competitors from around the country and benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

In addition to the High Performance, Junior, Amateur-Owner, Children’s, Pony, and Adult Amateur Hunter divisions, the Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show will feature a number of highlight hunter competitions. The main event will be the Carole and Jim Looke Family Fund $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

One of the barns that will be traveling to compete at the Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show will be SBS Farms with their professional rider Jennifer Alfano. Over the last two years, Alfano has won countless Hunter Derby events and placed second in the last two Finals, after winning the Leading Money Earner title. She will have mounts competing in the Derby, the High Performance Hunters, and the Second Year Green Working Hunters.

“Co-Founder Peter [Pletcher] has done an incredible job to get a lot of sponsorship and support for this horse show, with a lot of money at stake for the top horses in the hunter divisions, which doesn't happen too often,” noted Alfano. “We have to support a true professional like Peter for what he's doing for the sport. We are headed excited to head to Texas after the Derby in Palm Beach and can't wait to see what everyone's been talking about. I think it's great that there is such good prize money in the hunters, and we thought that made it worth the trip”

Another highlight event during the Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show will be Thursday’s $25,000 Pre-Green Classic, followed by the $20,000 National Hunter Classic on Friday. On Sunday, riders will also have the opportunity to compete in the $5,000 Junior Hunter Classic, and a $3,000 Pony Hunter Classic.
