Traverse City, MI – July 14, 2010 - Horse Sports by the Bay, Inc. will be hosting the $15,000 Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby sponsored by the Gochman Family of New York, New York on Friday, July 16, 2010. The hunter derbies have become an intricate part of equestrian competition throughout the country.
The USHJA created the hunter derby series in hopes to bring back the tradition of showing hunter horses. The derbies consist of natural looking obstacles such as logs, brush fences, and stone walls. They have been reestablished in equestrian competition to give present day horses and riders the ability to showcase their talents in the hunter world.
Becky Gochman and her family will sponsor this year’s Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby. Gochman unfortunately is not able to participate in this year’s event.
“She was hoping to start doing the derbies, and her plan was to start here this year,” said Daniel Arendt of PJP Farms in Magnolia, Texas.
Instead, Gochman will be spending the summer with her family in New York but because of how important the hunter derbies are to her, she still remains the sponsor.
“She really supports it. Peter loves the hunter derbies and she is really supportive of him and wanted to do something for him and the horse show,” commented Arendt.
The Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby will take place in the Grand Prix Ring at Flintfields Horse Park on Friday.
Horse Sports by the Bay, Inc. is known for their wonderful hospitality. They go above and beyond when it comes to making sure their spectators are satisfied. Catered food and drinks will be served in the VIP tent overlooking the grand prix ring.
“The exhibitor’s party they put on is great. At night, being down on that hill, the view is so pretty there. It is a great location,” smiled Arendt.
Peter Pletcher will be showing four horses in the derby this year. They are Argentum owned by Alta Basaldua, NLF Shakespear’s Rhythm owned by Nordic Lights Farm, LLC, Westview owned by Eva Bisso, and Tell All owned by Susie Baker.
When asked about their horses chances, Arendt said, “Argentum and NLF Shakespear’s Rhythm are two great horses; they always seem to pull it together the best.”
The $15,000 Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby will start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Horse Sports by the Bay, Inc. would like to thank the Gochman family for their generous donation as the sponsors of this prestigious event.
