WORLD’S LARGEST WHITE BIG TOP TO RISE FOR CAVALIA AT TAMPA

WHO: Cavalia , the world-renowned equestrian spectacular presented by the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts Normand Latourelle, Cirque du Soleil Co-founder, set to send Cavalia ’s White Big Top soaring into the air more than 20 years after he first brought Cirque to Florida, unveiling another unique show premiering in 2010.
WHAT: The official raising of the majestic White Big Top that will house Cavalia, the spectacular equestrian odyssey that features a cast of more than 100 two and four-legged artists including: horses of 12 breeds, acrobats, aerialists, dancers, riders and live musicians.
“Occasionally we are offered shows that are too big even for our stages," said Judy Lisi, president and CEO of the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. "In this case, we are delighted to present Cavalia at the Florida State Fairgrounds to ensure that audiences in this area get the chance to experience this amazing spectacle."
Cavalia will appear for a limited engagement beginning March 12, 2010 under the world’s largest touring tent, a pristine white structure raising some 100-feet above the ground and spanning more than 26,000 square feet.
The Big Top itself is more than 71,400 square feet of canvas and weighs 45,000 pounds. The entire structure weighs nearly 100,000 pounds. Seven trailers were required to transport the tent.
Seen by more than 2.5 million people worldwide, Cavalia is a tribute to horses and a celebration of the relationship that we have enjoyed together. This multimedia extravaganza features more than 100 two and four-legged artists, including beautiful horses of 12 breeds, riders, acrobats, aerialists, dancers and live musicians.
