Alise Oken and Pedro Awarded High Junior Jumper Reserve Championship Prize at I Love New York Horse Show
Written by: Rebecca Walton Client:Hi Hopes Farm LLC Release Date:2009-07-08
Lake Placid, NY - July 8, 2009 - Alise Oken's success continued in Lake Placid this week as she competed during the I Love New York Horse Show. Oken captured two reserve championship tricolors for her family's Hi Hopes Farm. She earned the first with her High Junior Jumper, Pedro, and the second with her Large Junior Hunter, Take Away. Hi Hopes Farm is located is Charlotte, NC, and is the home of trainers Steve Heinecke and Jeff Wirthman.
Oken and Pedro began the I Love New York Horse Show with an exciting win. The pair dominated Wednesday's $2,500 High Junior Jumper class with an incredible double clear effort. Their performance would be enough to guarantee Oken and Pedro the division's reserve championship honors.
"Alise did a beautiful job, she never slowed down, she just kept galloping," explained trainer Steve Heinecke. "Her strategy was to go as fast as she could at the beginning of the course. It was a very technical jump-off, and the end was much harder than the beginning. Pedro is a very careful horse so we wanted to go fast at the beginning so we could be more conservative towards the end of the course, and our plan paid off."
Oken then moved to the hunter ring where she competed in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunter division with Take Away. During the first day's competition the pair placed second in the handy and third over fences, while on the second day the pair earned a first and third place ribbon over fences, as well as a third place ribbon in the under saddle class.
Northern Majic, owned by Hi Hopes Farm, competed in the Small/Medium Children's Pony Hunter division with JT Farm's Brianne Link. Link and Northern Majic earned two first place ribbons and a second place ribbon to capture the division's championship tricolor for the second week in a row. Their excellent performance earned them the show's Grand Children's Pony Hunter Championship award.
Madison Maners, who also rides with Hi Hopes Farm, showed in the Small Pony Hunter division with Hi Lite. The pair earned two first place ribbons, a second place ribbon, a third place ribbon, and a fourth place ribbon to capture the division's reserve championship prize.
Goliath, owned by Katie Fisher and ridden by Chloe Reid, also competed with Hi Hopes Farm at the I Love New York Horse Show. Reid and Goliath swept the Green Pony Hunter division, winning every class and earning the division's championship tricolor.
Oken and Hi Hopes Farm will travel to Lexington, KY next, where Oken has been invited to compete in the 2009 FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships.
