Release Date: 2009-05-04

Ocala, FL- May 5, 2009 - This past weekend Caitie Hope of Barrington, IL, had the opportunity to travel with her trainer, Diane Carney, and compete with Don Stewart Stables, of Ocala, FL, at the RMI Mid-Florida II Horse Show. Stewart provided two horses for Hope to show: Don Juan in the equitation classes, and Walkaway in the Small Junior Hunter division. Hope amassed multiple ribbons for her excellent rides on both carefully chosen mounts during the show. Hope trains with Diane Carney of Telluride Farm in Hampshire, IL.

This was the first time Hope has ridden Don Juan, and they proved to be an excellent match. The pair performed beautifully and earned the blue ribbon in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search class. Hope and Don Juan then competed in the WIHS Equitation Classic, winning the jumper phase and earning the third place award in the hunter phase to place second overall.

Next, Hope competed with Walkaway in the Small Junior Hunter division where the pair garnered the championship tricolor. Hope and Walkaway earned two blue ribbons and three red ribbons during the division’s classes, including winning the handy class. They then competed in the Junior/Amateur Hunter Classic where they received scores of 86 and 85 to earn the top call.

“Catch riding can have its challenges, but Caitie went straight and forward to the middle of the jumps. The competition results spoke for themselves,” stated Carney. “Don knows Caitie, and he picked not just good horses that he knew she could ride, but ones that matched her. Caitie loves to gallop and both horses did too. Gallop was the operative word, and they did it all great. It was really fun.”

She continued, “I thought it was a great weekend for Caitie. Between the travel, catch riding, and fitting in schoolwork, she was juggling all of her responsibilities. She showed great focus and maturity.”

Next week Carney will be a learner judge at the Kentucky Spring Horse Show. Following that, she and Hope will travel to the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair in Pennsylvania to compete. Hope will ride Don Juan in the equitation classes and will show Walkaway in the Small Junior Hunter 16-17 Years division.

Carney is based out of Hampshire, IL, at her hunter/jumper show stable, Telluride Farm. She has been both an active participant and influential trainer in the hunter and jumper community for many years. Her contributions to the industry extend to the many clinics that she teaches every year, in addition to those that she hosts annually for U.S. Show Jumping Chef d’Equipe George H. Morris and top hunter/jumper trainer Don Stewart Jr. Most recently Carney was voted Illinois Hunter/Jumper Horse Person of the Year for 2008, and she is the 2009 Vice-Chairperson of the Zone 5 USHJA Hunter Committee.
