Elizabeth Perry and Londeur Victorious in Equitation 15-17
Traverse City, MI - July 24, 2008 - It was another gorgeous day in Traverse City, MI as the second week of Horse Shows by the Bay continued this morning. In ring 4, the equitation classes began under clear blue skies and sunshine. The show, held at Flintfields Horse Park, runs from July 16-August 3.
Winning the Platinum Performance USEF Talent Search class in ring 4 was Johanna Hyyppa of Portland, CT and Radscha A.W. owned by Heritage Farm.
“I have been riding him for a couple of months now,” Hyyppa said. “He is new to the equitation, but he is one of the nicest horses that I have ever ridden. He is green, but beyond amazing, so I cannot complain about being able to ride him.”
Eighteen-year-old Hyyppa is in her last year as a junior rider. She trains with Heritage Farm and has been riding with them for almost two years now.
Just before Hyyppa’s win, the morning started off with a group of twenty-three competing in the Equitation 15-17 Over Fences class. Winning top honors in the class was Elizabeth Perry of Kalamazoo, MI and her fifteen year-old Holsteiner, Londeur.
“He was great for me today,” Perry said after her win. “He was really fast and he felt awesome.”
Londeur is Perry’s only horse and she has owned him for two years. She has had a lot of fun with the horse and admits that he has taught her a lot. Although she has been riding since she was six years old, Perry just started doing the ‘A’ shows about three years ago and thinks that it has been a really good experience for her.
Along with a summer full of riding, Perry, who just graduated high school this spring, is also preparing for college in the fall. She plans on going to Michigan State University to study biology and Spanish and possibly go pre-med or pre-vet.
Although college will take up a lot of her time, Perry plans to keep riding. “I want to do the Amateur-Owner (division) on my horse and hopefully do the USEF (Talent Search) also,” she said. “We are looking for another horse right now.”
There will be much more equitation action tomorrow here at Horse Shows by the Bay. Be sure to check in for what will hopefully be another beautiful day of equestrian competition in Traverse City, MI.
