Save the Date! Saturday, February 9, 2008: EQUUS Equestrian Idol Event
Written by: Phelps Media Group, Inc. Client:Equus Foundation, Inc. Release Date:2007-10-09
WESTPORT, CT – October 9, 2007 - With competition for fundraising dollars as competitive as the equestrian sport, The EQUUS Foundation will kickoff its 2008 fundraising effort with an encore of its wildly successfully 2007 EQUUS Equestrian Idol Musical Talent Show. The event features musical performances by talented equestrians and will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008, during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. For 2007 event highlights, check out http://www.equusfoundation.org/ sponsorsflorida.htm.
The goal of The EQUUS Foundation, Inc. is to insure the horse’s place in society for generations to come by supporting organizations that demonstrate the horse’s value to people of all ages whether they come from a privileged background or a disadvantaged one. Horses contribute therapeutically in the magical way they empower and heal those who care for and ride these beautiful animals. Athletically, they team uniquely with men and women of all ages, allowing them to compete against each other equally.
Thanks to hundreds of individuals and organizations, the Foundation has reached a milestone having awarded $250,000 in 2007 and over $850,000 in grants to over 40 organizations in just five years in three focal areas:
those that depend on horses therapeutically to help people – especially children – with life-threatening illness; with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities; or who are at-risk of succumbing to a life of violence; horses achieve, in many cases, what people and other animals have not been able to achieve.
those that promote the health and welfare of the horse through veterinary research, rescue and rehabilitation; and
those that elevate the equestrian sport as a whole by offering relief to equestrians in need and scholarships and grants to support the competition, training, and educational needs of equestrians.
Six-time Olympian, Robert Dover, has signed on again for the 2008 event, along with other equestrian luminaries. Lynn Coakley said, “We are so grateful to Robert for agreeing to take time out of his busy schedule to help us with our fundraising effort. It takes an Olympian to accomplish Robert’s most recent project - The Search for America’s Next Equestrian Star - the reality show that debuts on Fox Reality Channel on Friday, October 19 at 9:00 a.m. EST.”
Dover’s show consists of five hour-long episodes that will air sequentially at 9:00 a.m. every Friday through November 16, the show’s finale when America’s next Dressage Star will be revealed. In a nationwide search, hundreds of people sent in audition tapes for the chance to be selected as one of the final six contestants. In the series, the final six undergo a series of challenges and competitions that result in eliminations. Fox will evaluate this series on viewer interest to consider extending the series to other equestrian disciplines, including show jumping. Coakley added, “We, at EQUUS, commend Robert for helping to raise public awareness of the sport. All the show needs is viewers, and we hope that everyone tunes in.”
