American Diabetes Association’s Carnivale Transforms International Polo Club into Australian Outback Retreat

Wellington, FL – March 5, 2006 – The International Polo Club in Wellington was transformed into a “down under” paradise on Friday night for the American Diabetes Association’s Carnivale 2007.

Themed Australian Outback, the Carnivale hosted outback touches such as tiki torches lining the drive and walkway, an aboriginal didgeridoo player located at the entrance to greet party-goers with authentic and melodious sounds, and a small zoo of animals native to the land down under, including an Australian camel, a water buffalo, and of course, a kangaroo, appropriately named Outback Jack.

Guests mingled under the lights and stars enjoying conversation, cocktails and hand-passed hors d’oeuvres, which included a mini version of tomato soup and grilled cheese and lamb chop lollipops. In addition, there were a great variety of silent and live auction items to pursue and bid on in the time before dinner. Items ranged from a week in the mountains in North Carolina and an 8-week-old West Highland Terrier, to a gift basket with a cappuccino machine.

Dinner, which was “shrimp on the barbee,” petite filet mignon, and grilled vegetable bundles, was followed by the live auction and high-energy dancing accompanied by the music of the band The Edge. The chairs of the event, Joe and Ashley Maguire, thanked guests for their attendance, donations to the association, and support for the cause. The Carnivale supports and raises financial assistance for the American Diabetes Association, which is the leading diabetes research organization, advocacy group and informational source for the cure of and prevention of diabetes and its related health problems.

A number of local dignitiaries and celebrities attended the event, including: Miss New York Bethlene Pancoast, Miss Florida Allison Kreiger, Mrs. Florida International Robin Fleming, former ‘Apprentice’ cast member Marisa DeMato, Commissioner Jess Santamaria, West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel, Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder, state Senator Jeff Atwater, and U.S. Representative Tim Mahoney.

Other guests included: Wellington Mayor Tom Wenham and wife Regis, Wellington Councilman Dr. Carmine Priore and wife Marie, Wellington Village Councilwoman Laurie Cohen and husband Irwin, Village Councilwoman Lizbeth Benaquisto, Frank and Herta Suess, Julie and Howard Rudolph, Barry Miles and Delinda Foster, Diane and Brandon Reid, Susan & John Domenico, Lisa and Greg Combs, Honorary Chairwoman Melissa Cohn, Mason Phelps, Jr., R.
