Dedication to Journalism and Her Passion for Horses Fuel Emily Monacelli’s Enthusiasm as She Joins the “Young Set” of Contributors for PhelpsSports.Com

Wellington, FL - June 26, 2006 – A passion for both journalism and horses inspired Emily’s career goal and her dedication to pursuing a personal dream. Currently a student at Western Michigan University it’s hardly surprising that she’s majoring in journalism, and her natural enthusiasm will serve to inspire other youngsters. Already a published writer of both hard news and feature stories for several publications, she says that “ever since I fell in love with journalism as a career, I have been longing to combine it with my passion for horses.” Emily joins the PhelpsSports.com team of contributors, specifically for our “youth” column, which will include event reporting from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that support the aspirations of many young equestrians.

Originally from Crown Point, Indiana, Emily admits that her involvement with horses began on a whim! “My godmother's daughter was taking English riding lessons at a local barn, and my mom asked me if I'd like to try. Then, I was nine. Little did we both know how great an influence horses would become in my life. I've been horse-crazy ever since!” Emily has now shown for nine years in 4-H and open shows, including the Paint Horse World Championships and Pinto World Championships, and in 2005 led the Zone 8 APHA rankings in the 14-18 age division. Emily admits that being a member of the WMU Stock Seat Equestrian Team and competitor on the IHSA circuit, alongside demanding school and work schedules “have taught me to be detail-oriented and greatly developed my time-management skills.”

For Jean Llewellyn, Executive Editor of PhelpsSports.com, “Emily augments an already amazingly strong and diverse youth team that will be providing regular columns and event reports for PhelpsSports.com.” Adding, “They will provide an extremely solid foundation on which to build our coverage of college, junior and young rider categories within a wide range of disciplines. I believe this will add a unique facet to PhelpsSports.com and service a much-needed area of news delivery within the equestrian industry.” Llewellyn concluded by saying, “This is a very worthwhile investment because, after all, these are potentially our riders and equestrian journalists of tomorrow.”
