SBS Farm’s Kacey McCann Again Named Best Child Rider At HITS Ocala
Ocala, FL- February 28, 2006- Fifteen year old Kacey McCann, of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, again made Ocala sit up and take notice as she was named Best Child Rider by the judges at the HITS III Ocala Masters show in Ocala, Florida. This is the second time in three weeks that McCann has received this prestigious award. And once again, as in the first week, her list of accomplishments is quite long.
When asked to comment on Kacey McCann’s extraordinary week, trainer Susie Schoellkopf said, “It is a pleasure having two riders like Jennifer (Alfano) and Kacey in my barn. Kacey has turned into a mature rider with a great future. She adapts to new horses much like Jennifer does.”
In the Equitation 15-17, McCann was reserve champion with a blue ribbon over fences. She commented, “It was a really good warm-up for the Medal.”
McCann also won the USEF/Pessoa Hunter Seat Medal class. She remarked, “I rode my equitation jumper horse, Marcellus, in this class. He was a little fresh, but he was just great.” Marcellus is owned by SBS Farms, Inc., of Buffalo, New York.
In the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic, McCann rode Galileo in the Hunter phase, and the pair took first place. She smiled and said, “He’s a jumper, and he’s not used to a hunter course, going straight and steady, but he was really good.” She then followed that up with an 81 in the jumper phase of the Washington and came out on top with first place overall.
In the Small Junior Hunter 15 and Under division, McCann showed two horses. The first, By The Way, owned by SBS Farms, Inc., was champion in the division, taking home two first place ribbons and two seconds. She said, “The footing was sloppy today from the rain we had last night. Yesterday, the handy was pretty hard, but they’re my favorite, so I rode it well.” The second horse she rode in the division, Rappahanock, owned by Scottie Daniels, was reserve champion with two second place ribbons.
Moving on to the Large Junior Hunter 15 and Under division, McCann showed Carlyle for owner Susan Brunn. The pair received three first place ribbons while capturing the tricolor ribbon. McCann grinned and said, “We had first in the handy – I do love the handy, and we won the under saddle. He’s a nice mover.”
McCann finished off her fantastic weekend with another championship in the Modified Junior Hunters, again on Carlyle for owner Susan Brunn.
In the Second Year Green Hunter division, GG Valentine, owned by Barbara Kearney of Placerville, Colorado, was ridden by Jennifer Alfano to the reserve championship. GG received a first and two seconds on her way to the tricolor. Alfano spoke of GG Valentine, “She’s always perfect. I just have to stay out of her way.”
In the First Year Green Hunter division, Breitling took home two blue ribbons. Jennifer Alfano had the ride for owner Jennifer Burger of Buffalo, New York.
Churchill captured two blue ribbons in the Second Year Green Hunter division for owner Meredith Lipke Bartolone under the hand of Jennifer Alfano.
Meredith Lipke Bartolone of Buffalo, New York, was champion in the Equitation 36 and Over division and received a blue ribbon over fences on her way to the championship. She also took a second place on her hunter, Once And Again, in the Amateur Owner Hunter 36 and Over division.
SBS Farm riders will compete next week in the HITS IV - Ocala Tournament.
