SBS Farm’s Kacey McCann Named Best Junior Rider At HITS I – Ocala Winter Classic

Ocala, FL- February 13, 2006- SBS Farms rider Kacey McCann of Palmyra, Pennsylvania topped off an incredible week of showing by being named Best Junior Rider at the HITS I – Ocala Winter Classic show in Ocala, Florida.

McCann began her week with a reserve championship in the Equitation 15-17 division where she took first place in the flat class. She proved the wide range of her talents as she moved from the preciseness of the equitation ring to the jumper ring. There she took first place in the Low Junior Jumpers on Mick O Angelo, owned by the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center of Buffalo, New York.

On Sunday morning, McCann won the USEF Talent Search, a combination of jumper and flat classes. McCann said smiling, “The competition here is really tough. I had to try my hardest.” When asked about the USEF course, she said, “It was great, but there were lots of distractions. The sun was coming up, so there were was glare and shadows, and it was really windy. The course wasn’t too hard, I don’t think, but it was long and bendy – a lot of really good distances that you had to keep track of.” When asked if this was her regular jumper horse, she said, “No, this is one of Don Stewart’s junior sale horses that I started riding in Jacksonville. I’m saving my equitation horse for the Washington this afternoon.”

In the WIHS Jumper phase that afternoon, McCann finished first with a score of 86.

In the Small Junior 15 & Under Hunter division, By the Way, owned by SBS Farms, and McCann captured the championship with three blue ribbons. McCann said of By the Way, “He was a little frisky today because of the cold weather. But it’s our first championship for the year. We had a reserve in Jacksonville, so I’m pleased with it.” McCann also rode Rappahannock for Scottie Daniels to a blue ribbon in the Small Juniors.

Riding Incantation for Alex Urban of Rockford, Illinois, McCann captured the reserve championship in the Large Junior 15 & Under Hunter division.

And so, with a win in the USEF, a win in the WIHS, a win in Low Junior Jumpers, a championship in Small Junior Hunters, and three reserve championships in the Large Junior Hunters, Modified Junior Hunters, and Equitation 15 -17, Kacey McCann truly deserved the votes of the judges for Best Junior Rider at the Ocala Winter Classic. It was quite a display of her exceptional riding talents.

Meredith Bartolone entered the Adult Equitation 36 & Over division on her six year old horse Churchill. “This is his first show, and I wanted to do some classes before the Amateur-Owner [Hunters]. The courses rode beautifully, nice and flowing.” It ended up being much more than a practice session as they won both over fences classes and captured the championship in the division. The pair also captured the USEF Adult Medal. Bartolone said, “The test had a trot fence. He handled it beautifully. It really came out well.” Churchill also received a blue ribbon over fences in the Amateur Owner 36 & Over Hunter division.

SBS Farm riders will compete next week in the HITS II - Ocala Winter Festival.
